Sometimes you do truly fuck shit right up. It may be the worst thing that you do in your life, and it may be the last thing that you do in their life, but it's not going to be the last thing your life. You just have to make some kind of peace with yourself, move along, and figure out how to never be back in that place where you acted in that way.

Shame certainly is underrated. The guilt and shame over this kind of transgression can certainly be used as a reminder that character is a tapestry woven from a nearly infinite number of conscious choices day to day, minute to minute - not some immutable divine blessing of perfection or curse of depravity.

Just wanted to say I’m new to Substack and recently discovered your column. Not that it means anything, but I really enjoy your writing and wisdom. There’s a lot of fluff floating out there, and what I’ve read so far from you seems real and carries a hint of Stoicism in a practical sense. So thank you.
